    Ed Boone is the single father of Christopher, an autistic child. Ed lives with his son in Swindon, England. He works as a heating engineer and may have diabetes because “he has to carry around a small packet of artificial sweetener tablets to put in his coffee to stop it from gaining weight” (p. 56). Ed is described as a person. who follows the rules, he also likes things that are in a certain order “He always puts on his pants before he puts on his socks. " Yet sometimes Ed doesn't follow the rules: "Father often drives over 30 mph in a 30 mph zone, sometimes he drives when he's been drinking, and often he doesn't wear his seat belt. » (p.38)Ed Boone lovingly cares for his son Christopher, but he also struggles with frustration. The frustration of not being able to understand is my son. Not understanding what Christopher means. Overall, Christopher loves his son, that's why he wants to protect him from his mother who left him. Judy Boone left her son because she couldn't deal with the problems with Christopher and the frustration that came with it. Ed told Christopher that his mother had died of a heart attack, when in truth she had run away to London with Mr. Shears. Ironically, while Judy is having affairs with Mr. Shears, Ed is having an affair with Mrs. Shears. Ed never tells Christopher about the affair. Ed, however, alludes to it when he says, "She needed company and didn't want to be alone." This shows Ed's compassion when it may seem like he was acting out revenge for taking a lonely person. rewarded with sexual favors for welcoming Mrs. Shears, but he still made her feel welcome. Overall, Ed was a good father to Christopher, but sometimes he let his frustration and emotions get away from him. He had two women leave him and that was more than enough to push him over the edge. He had no one to talk to except Christopher, and Christopher couldn't fully understand him. He did what he thought was best, disguising his problems by drinking them away and hiding them. He tries to be a strong father to Christopher, but it ends up hurting him instead of helping him when Christopher leaves..
