    William Shakespeare, born April 26, 1564, was an English poet, playwright, and actor, primarily considered the greatest writer in the English language. Shakespeare is believed to have constructed thirty-eight plays, one hundred and fifty-four sonnets, two long narrative poems, and some other verses. . ("Did Shakespeare write his plays?") Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare's father was an alderman, so Shakespeare did not attend any special school or college. Shakespeare went to public schools. There are official documents, such as church and court records, that attest that Shakespeare was "real." Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway on 28 November 1582 in Worcester, Canterbury. Their first child, a daughter named Susanna, born on May 26, 1583. Two years later, on February 2, 1585, twins Hamnet and Judith were born. Hamnet later died of unknown causes at the age of eleven. The question of Shakespeare authorship is the argument that someone other than William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon wrote the works under the name William Shakespeare. Some people say that Shakespeare was a front to protect the identity of the real author(s), who for whatever reason did not want fame or public interest. The question of authorship was first raised in the mid-19th century. Very little is known about Shakespeare's personal life. The lack of biographical information has sometimes been interpreted as an indication of an attempt by government officials to get rid of all traces of Shakespeare in the historical record and to conceal the identity of the true author.
