Essay / Female Beauty in America - 1241
Sophistication and style: the true meaning of beautyThree words come to mind when you see the embodiment of Hollywood's A-List: sophistication, style and confidence. Although the media will always portray celebrities as sex symbols, tasteful images have now become the norm in today's society. A woman's beauty is now portrayed in another way – fully clothed and confident. It’s obvious now, even if I look around campus. Girls who are poised and elegant don't prance around in midriff shirts and mini skirts. It's all about the look. A woman is no longer sexy because she barely dresses – she is sexy because she has character. Whether it's mystery, humor, certainty, charm, or intelligence, women are more attractive because of who they are rather than how they look. Today's society is moving toward one of refinement – a movement that is currently influencing America's youth. Mischa Barton and Kate Hudson, two well-known celebrities, are now part of the new face of America. They are both A-list stars on the cover of two popular magazines. Neither Mischa nor Kate are portrayed in a bland way. They represent the essence of what a real woman is. Mischa, for example, is dressed in a trendy outfit, perhaps ready for a day of shopping. She has a mysterious air that says, “I’m ready for anything.” Kate, conversely, looks playful and fun; the kind of girl you would want to take dancing. They're attractive because they give off a vibe – something that can't be conveyed through flashy clothing. So what kind of message are women like Mischa Barton and Kate Hudson sending to America's youth? The media is slowly convincing girls to cover... middle of paper... that is currently taking over our culture. After all, “the most attractive woman is the one who is confident, who holds her own, and who is smarter than a lie” (Jost). 2006.
