  • Essay / Acid Spray - 2153

Having your face disfigured and burned in seconds is not the consequence a woman has in mind when she refuses to date a man. Unfortunately, this form of violence or “acid throwing” occurs in countries with sexual stratification or “caste” systems. The purpose of this essay is to inform the reader what acid throwing is; how and why this happens and provide several facts about this crime. Hopefully one of these organizations will help these women who have been victims and they can lead a normal life. This is a horrific act happening overseas in countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Nitric, hydrochloric or sulfuric acids are splashed on a person's face and cause all layers of the skin to dissolve. The acid exposes the bones, burns the eyes, the nose and the hair are often destroyed; This results in permanent disfigurement to the victim's body and emotional well-being. Most often this happens to women rather than men. It is one of the most degrading acts a person can commit towards another person. Why would anyone commit such a horrible crime? We have many questions about the underlying reason for these crimes. Acid throwing often happens because a woman did something that didn't please a man or because something she did offended him. It doesn't have to be a female victim; cases of male victims have been reported, but the rate is nowhere near that of female victims. Surprisingly, this happens to children as young as four years old, as a punishment. Many cases end in acid throwing due to land disputes, family conflicts, political rivalries, infidelity, broken marriage, rejection and refusal of a relationship...... middle paper ......tp://www. licadhocambodia.org/pressrelease.php?perm=49>.7.
