The Case Study: The Crowded Clinic provided good examples of what many busy clinics face on a daily basis. Lately, many computer systems have been created to improve outpatient clinic scheduling issues, such as "Open Access", "AdvancedMD", "Medical Office Online" and many others. These programs make the day-to-day running of a medical practice easier. However, to make patients feel more welcome, few other things can be implemented. For example, letting receptionists handle arriving patients immediately, instead of having patients wait while the receptionist handles phone calls, helps with prescriptions, and/or handles emergencies. This means that everyone in the office must multitask and must be cross-trained, so they can all contribute to front office tasks. This should be required upon hiring. According to Carrie Rossenfeld of Medical Office Today: Other medical office staff can handle all the phone calls, leaving receptionists to handle their primary responsibilities: checking patients in, answering their questions, and making them feel comfortable. . The waiting room should have plenty of sunlight, soothing music in the background, and a soft paint color on the walls. The office waiting room should have posters in different languages to make multilingual patients feel more comfortable. Seats should be soft to meet the needs of patients with chronic back pain. After all, patients spend a lot of time waiting for a doctor's appointment. These uncomfortable seats make patients anxious.
