Essay / Credit Cards and the Foreclosure Crisis - 1372
This economic crisis began with the mortgage and credit card industry. We have a generation that never understood how to use credit properly and we have more bankruptcy claims today than ever before as a nation. The recession started because our country was growing too fast for itself, people were taking out loans for houses they couldn't afford, and banks were renting them out. We've also had a huge credit problem lately; I've even seen it personally with my parents, their interest rates have all increased. Real credit cards, not debit cards with a credit logo, represent a huge responsibility, one that many people have proven they cannot handle. If a million teenagers default on a $500 payment at a 22% interest rate, or $610,000,000 that goes back to the credit industry, this in turn puts pressure on both the market and on companies that take on debt. This process triggered the suffering of national economies. According to the U.S. Census, there are approximately 21,500,000 adolescents. So the million I just mentioned represents only about 5% of American teenagers. So while home loans were devastating the banking industry, the credit industry was also under fire. Ultimately, it all came back to the stock market, leading to the recent collapse. When debt hit the stock market and businesses, investors saw what was happening and withdrew their funds, and so the businesses collapsed. The market and real estate collapse occurred because banks made overly generous loans that only matured and never repaid the loans. The banks pulled back and inflated housing costs, which put pressure on the banks and weakened their stocks, so everything started to slowly go into a downward spiral. As the banks felt the pressure from all these old people, they had to pay paper to charities and pretend that these charities are accomplishing through their efforts. We spend our days imitating knowledge that took us two decades or more to learn. Yet somehow we still lack the passion to leave a legacy and become great. I think our future is bleak, dreamers are disappearing, innovations are slowing down, and the world is slowly crumbling before us. We can change our destiny and find a better future, but if we lack the passion to seek a new horizon, we will never have that chance. It is not the distance traveled that will be remembered; these are the steps taken to get there. Until we all take personal responsibility for our financial situation, big corporations and the wealthy will continue to rule over us. I'm just talking about this because we are not just nations, we are humanity and we are all afraid of what will happen and only unity can save us..
