Essay / The Influence of Love on the LGBT Community - 1331
The way gender shapes love can be seen from two different perspectives, both illustrated in "The Power of Marriage." The first is the unfaithful identity of men, mentioned above. The second, however, takes a complete turn since it concerns the factor of how gender shapes love within the LGBT community. In many states, homosexuals are not allowed to marry and, ultimately, are socially unacceptable. Because of their identity as gay, their love is shaped by complications that arise from the way most communities react to the idea of same-sex love. Because of their same-sex love, some communities are shaped to be unacceptable while others are shaped to be tolerant and supportive. Communities that aren't accepting will usually show hatred, which will eventually affect how lovers feel about each other as well. Another way that same-sex love influences and shapes community is when other same-sex couples gain the hope and confidence they need through the love of other supportive couples. Essentially, love in a community regarding gender will either cause the community to be malicious, or the love will spread and create some sort of safe haven for other same-sex lovers in the community.
