Shyu, Y. (2000) discusses time management in this article and lists different ways to deal with time management issues. Researchers discuss how to reach a sweet spot or balance while facing competing needs in care delivery. The article is broken down into three categories of means of adaptation. Maintenance is used to prevent problem situations, environmental modification and planning. For example, when a client does not want to do something that the caregiver is doing or does not want to leave an area, the caregiver must adapt to what the client is doing by leaving the door open or positioning themselves in a place where they can stay attentive while doing their job. Recovering is necessary when a major problem arises, managing emotions and behaviors, and modifying tasks. Caregivers described instances where they arrived in a bad mood and resulted in altercations with the client.
