    The Odyssey was written by Homer and is a Greek epic poem. It tells how Odysseus returned from Troy after the Trojan War, as well as his adventures and experiences on the journey. In the book, Odysseus is described as a hero by his actions and by the way he copes with difficult situations on his journey. Throughout his nearly 10 years of travel, Ulysses demonstrated responsibility, justice and wisdom in each of his trials. Responsibility, an important trait of a hero, is constantly demonstrated throughout the book for good reason. Odysseus shows his responsibility from the start of his adventures on the island of the Lotus Eaters. On the island, some of Odysseus' men eat the lotuses and begin to lose hope, wanting nothing more than to stay there forever. Odysseus also demonstrates responsibility by quickly acceding to the situation and taking it upon himself to lead, and even force, the men off the island and back onto his ship. His quick thinking and sense of responsibility saved the men, rather than abandoning them on the deadly island. Later in the book, Odysseus faces one of his toughest challenges....
