    The History of the CajunsThe Cajuns are thrifty, determined, cheerful and devoted people who settled in southern Louisiana in 1759. The Cajuns had an affectionate nature that was evident in community gatherings. Cajuns enjoyed the festivals, dancing, and food that are essential elements of bayou life. Cajuns were people who made do with what they had. The Cajuns would work and play with the same enthusiasm. In Cajun country, days rarely passed without cheers being made for crawfish, rice, alligators, cotton, boudin, and okra, all the necessities of bayou life. In 1604, the Cajuns, then known as Acadians, were forced to flee. their homes. Cajuns are of French origin. France was the first owner of the first licensed colonies in North America. In 1713, the British won rights from the French and took their colonies. The Cajuns (Acadians) denied obeying the rules of the British which required them to renounce their Catholic religion. Cajuns were forced to evacuate their homes. This terrible incident is better known as "The Great Disruption". ยป....
