The Life of Adolf HitlerHitler's journey was not very privileged. Born in Austria, near the German border, in Braunau, to a modest customs officer and a former servant, he had a childhood dominated by his authoritarian and often violent father. But when his father died, he was able to act more freely. Educationally, Hitler was not a genius as party members would later claim, he had only mediocre to mediocre grades in most high school classes. He was, however, inspired by a nationalist history professor called Dr. Leonard Poetsch, who was a pure and simple German nationalist. After leaving school, he went to Vienna to apply for the Vienna School of Fine Arts, but he failed the entrance exam twice and was also rejected from the architecture school . This was the beginning of a change in Hitler's outlook on life; because of these rejections, he now began to see enemies in the people and institutions around him. There is also no doubt that he was strongly influenced by the strong anti-Semitic sentiments that reigned in Vienna at that time. It was also during his stay in Vienna that he began to read many books. However, his reading was very selective and he only read what supported his formative ideas. He undoubtedly read some of the authors already mentioned, such as Chamberlain, Nietzche and Lanz von Liebenfels, as well as many authors who favored a pan-Germany. This strengthened his belief in the völkisch movement and created in Hitler's mind a synthesis between a great German empire and a pure German Volk. The First World War was a turning point in Hitler's life. He managed to join the Bavarian infantry regiment and became a runner. He also won the Iron Cross and was gassed twice. However, it was here that Hitler found his place, he appreciated the order and structure that the army brought to his life.
