Sudan, located in northeastern Africa, is ranked 190th based on the number of migrants per thousand people, with a total of - 4.44 migrants per thousand people. For about 12 years (from 2001 to 2013), Sudan faced many challenges that caused its population to leave its territory and attract them to other places. These factors are called push and pull factors. Although immigration poses many challenges, the results are more rewarding than they would have been in Sudan. After migrating out of Sudan, these Sudanese migrants also face long-term consequences due to their decision to move. There are multiple push and pull factors in this journey. The migration of Darfur residents out of Sudan was a voluntary migration because the refugees wanted to settle in better places and there were no laws pushing them out of Sudan. One of the factors that prompted them to do this was that their homes were regularly raided. “Many Sudanese from marginalized areas like South Sudan and Darfur live in camps on the outskirts of Khartoum. These are regularly raided by the police and the houses demolished, in order to rehouse their inhabitants (without prior warning or right of appeal) further away in the deserts at the gates of the capital. They often lack access to basic facilities such as water, housing and transport. » Although this was an attempt by the government to drive the Sudanese from their homes, they could have stayed if they wanted. It was therefore a voluntary movement (Verney, p. 14-15). Another factor would be that their homes would be attacked by Sudanese forces and Janjaweed militias.
