Essay / Harry Potter and a Changed Life - 994
Harry Potter and a Changed LifeMany people can cite a specific experience that changed their view of the world, whether it was an important event, a work art, an influential coach or a religious person. experience. My worldview changed significantly when I started reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling. This wonderful work of literature opened my eyes to the power of imagination and allowed me to develop my passion for reading. However, it also led me to realize a realization that every young child must face: that every word spoken by an adult is not necessarily true. After becoming aware of the capacity of adults to make mistakes, even to lie, I began to understand and realize that to have the trust of others, you must have respected your reputation, and that trust in adults begins with knowledge of their integrity. Reading Harry Potter, I very rarely read for pleasure. I found reading boring, almost old-fashioned. My mindset more easily resembled that of Danny Divito in the movie Matlida, who says that "[t]here's nothing you can get from a book that you can't get faster from a TV .” Although my view on reading as a child can be summed up in this quote, everything changed when I discovered Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I remember the day my dad started reading Harry Potter to me and how I didn't understand how much this book would change me. Harry Potter and his wizarding world have become my personal Shangri-La, my escape, my own world. Whenever I wanted, I could access a fantasy world and explore the depths of my own imagination in a way I had never been able to before. I became obsessed with the book, reading it before, during and after school...... middle of article... it's like in real life, someone works very hard to have a certain reputation, like the student who did well on all his assignments, but in one act, that hard work can be completely shattered, like how the student's reputation was shattered after he failed his final. A reputation is a very fragile thing, something we all need to keep in mind every time we make a decision, complete a project, or make a statement. The Harry Potter series has had a direct impact on my life; it's the reason I developed my passion for reading, and it opened my eyes to the real world when it comes to adults and the truth. It also influenced me indirectly; making me aware of the importance of a solid reputation. I hope everyone has something that has changed them in the same way Harry Potter changed my life and helped make me the young man I am today..
