  • Essay / The Disadvantages of Globalization - 1583

Globalization is a difficult term to define, as it covers many broad topics on the world stage. However, this can generally be attributed to the advancement of economic, social and cultural interactions between businesses, citizens, organizations and governments of nations; globalization also focuses on the interactions and integration of countries (The Levin Institute 2012). Many in the Western world promote globalization as a positive concept that allows for growth and participation in a global community. Conversely, negative aspects rarely receive the same level of attention. Globalization appears beneficial to a privileged few, but its benefits are unevenly distributed. Furthermore, among all those who benefit or advance from the actions of globalization, there are countless others who suffer serious negative effects. Those who support globalization believe that it is a positive concept because it promotes the spread of wealth, culture, knowledge and technology. Proponents argue that the spread of information and wealth of this type will only benefit citizens, from the poorest in developing countries to the richest in established countries. Furthermore, they argue that the integration of cultures and economies leads to the diffusion of information, which also increases religious, cultural, and racial tolerance.
