Some of the things discussed are OK with Sears, but some of the topics are very different. The first big problem in the article is about breastfeeding. Sears says breastfeeding is best, if mom agrees, and you can even go as far as toddlers as you and your baby want. Science says there's little argument in favor of Sears, even when it talks about how long you can breastfeed. The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees that frequency and duration are to be determined by mom and baby. The next big question was when parents should respond to the yelling. Sears says parents should respond to any cries as soon as possible. Furthermore, stating that excessive crying can cause brain damage and lead to more developmental disorders. Science says Sears' advice is overblown. Allowing Babies to Cry for Long Periods of Time Won't Cause Brain Problems
