Essay / Christian Leadership - 1923
Nations are falling apart, churches and businesses are failing, families are becoming dysfunctional, children are going astray, and men are falling away from God for some disturbing reason; lack of leadership. These failures are often due to lack of instruction, proper leadership, and confusion about what Christian leadership is and how that leadership applies to all facets of professional and personal life. Webster's dictionary defines leadership as an office or position, the ability to direct, the act or instance of directing (Merriam-Webster, 2011). Leader is defined as: a person who directs a military force or unit, a person who has command authority or influence (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Army defines leadership as the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization. (Department of the Army, 2006, p. 1-2) Robert Clinton states, “The central task of leadership is to influence God's people toward God's purposes” (Clinton, 1988). George Barna defines a Christian leader as “one who is called by God to lead; leads with and through Christ-like character; and demonstrates the functional skills that enable effective leadership” (Barna, 1997). It is a shame that we Christians fail to recognize that Christ would have us be leaders beyond the Church. Nations collapse for lack of divine leadership, many nations, although they have good leaders, fail because they take their eyes off God and focus on God. the global version of success; they store their treasures in this world where they are easily destroyed, and they believe that worldly treasures are a mark of success and base their success on that. But God calls us to place... middle of paper ... asked me to submit to this supervisor. Jesus gave his disciples the power to accomplish tasks and go out and fulfill their calling.
