Effective interactions between radiology staff and patients can make the patient visit enjoyable and meaningful (Adler and Carlton, 2012). To interact effectively with patients, it is important to understand their needs and concerns. Fields et al. (2011) illustrate that empathy is an important component of professionalism and is mutually beneficial between medical staff members and patients across all healthcare professions. Sim and Radloff (2009) assert that altruism is an important attribution of professionalism and that it is the responsibility of the healthcare professional to put the patient's interest and well-being ahead of monetary gain. Therefore, radiology professionals acting altruistically and categorically with patients leads to better patient compliance and fulfillment. Like most healthcare professionals, radiology professionals have a great responsibility in their interactions with patients. Patients tend to view medical personnel as powerful and all-knowing (Adler & Carlton, 2012). According to Yielder and Davis (2009), this dominance arises from the extraordinary knowledge, techniques, and skills of medical personnel. As a result, patients rely on the competence of professionals to provide high-quality healthcare. Professionalism in radiology involves medical staff breaking down barriers of domination and working with patients to
