These notions all change depending on the country or culture. In the 1950s, the idea of a family consisted of a breadwinner father, a mother who worked at home, a few children, and even a pet. Today, families are much more diverse and culturally connected. The myth of the “model family” does not persist to this day because gender roles have changed significantly since the 1950s. Not only have women's roles in the family changed, but men have also experienced a slight adjustment. The involvement of technology and devices in the home has created one of the biggest changes in families. Children are now being raised by a variety of caring adults, including gay, interracial, nannies, fosters, and singles.
