Essay / How knowledge and technology relate to organization...
The organizing function of management deals with activities that result in the formal assignment of tasks and authorities and coordination of efforts. Management staffs the work unit, trains employees, secures resources, and transforms the work group into a productive team. Organizing is the managerial function of organizing people and resources to work toward a goal. Organizational objectives include, but are not limited to, determining tasks to be performed in order to achieve objectives, dividing tasks into specific tasks, grouping tasks into departments, specifying reporting relationships and authority, the delegation of authority necessary to accomplish tasks and the allocation and deployment of resources in a coordinated manner. These resources are what make an organization function as a single, cohesive entity. Physical, monetary, human assets, knowledge and technology are excellent examples of resources that help build on the foundation of the organization. Knowledge and technology are two elements that go hand in hand during the organizational processes of managing a business. Circuit City is a great example of an organization where knowledge and technology play a vital role in the management operation. Especially in the information age we currently find ourselves in, these combined resources not only help the company's employees but also the customers who shop in our stores. As a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation's leading providers of consumer electronics, Circuit City strives to deliver value to investors, businesses, and consumers (Circuit City, 2006). When the company opened its doors to the public in 1949, he wanted to provide the community...... middle of paper ......ogy. Of course, it's possible that if this online learning system wasn't available to us, employees could have looked it up on the internet and discovered it, but the in-store resource is specifically for employees so it could be correctly learned, explained and used. ; by employees, then finally by customers. This explains why technological resources and knowledge work together when trying to form this structure to make the organization stronger and make it a profitable business. With the knowledge and technology that was provided to employees through the organizing function of management, Circuit City has proven to give back to the community and that is the reason why customers purchase from the company.
