The organizing function of management deals with activities that result in the formal assignment of tasks and authorities and coordination of efforts. Management staffs the work unit, trains employees, secures resources, and transforms the work group into a productive team. Organizing is the managerial function of organizing people and resources to work toward a goal. Organizational objectives include, but are not limited to, determining tasks to be performed in order to achieve objectives, dividing tasks into specific tasks, grouping tasks into departments, specifying reporting relationships and authority, the delegation of authority necessary to accomplish tasks and the allocation and deployment of resources in a coordinated manner. These resources are what make an organization function as a single, cohesive entity. Physical, monetary, human assets, knowledge and technology are excellent examples of resources that help build on the foundation of the organization. Knowledge and technology are two elements that go hand in hand during the organizational processes of managing a business. Circuit City is a great example of an organization where knowledge and technology play a vital role in the management operation. Especially in the information age we currently find ourselves in, these combined resources not only help the company's employees but also the customers who shop in our stores. As a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation's leading providers of consumer electronics, Circuit City strives to deliver value to investors, businesses, and consumers (Circuit City, 2006).
