Essay / Wal-Mart opened its first store in Rogers, Arkansas. In 1970, Wal-Mart's first distribution center and headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., opened and Wal-Mart went public on the New York Stock Exchange. Nine years later, Wal-Mart's annual sales exceeded $1 billion. In 1988, Wal-Mart supercenters opened across the country. In just three years, Wal-Mart opened its own store in Mexico City, Mexico; making Wal-Mart an international company. Barely sixty years have passed and yet Wal-Mart dominates our country. The company employs 1.6 million associates worldwide through more than 3,700 facilities in the United States and more than 2,400 units in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. , South Korea and the United Kingdom, more than 138 million customers visit Wal-Mart stores worldwide every week. (Walmartfacts.com) With Wal-Mart being so outrageously huge in such a short period of time, I believe their customers have yet to understand why Wal-Mart is so cheap. Wal-Mart will replace higher-paying jobs with lower-paying jobs and will need taxpayer help to keep its employees out of poverty. Numerous studies reveal that, contrary to what the company claims, Wal-Mart does not create new jobs in the city. Wal-Mart is simply replacing higher-paying retail jobs with lower-paying jobs and, because of its negative impact on local businesses, could actually result in a net decrease in the number of jobs. Factories in China provide a whopping three dollars......on average of paper......to their employees without their knowledge. Due to their low prices, wages are even lower to make too decent a profit. Wal-Mart is an increasingly important competitor for those who are struggling enough to survive. It's easier for everyone to step back and let each other do what they want, but they've taken advantage of it and people don't like that. In addition to all the points I mentioned, Wal-Mart had to pay fines. due to violation of child labor laws and illegal immigrant laws; fines of up to $11.5 million for these two types of laws alone. Wal-Mart is not good for the economy, for people, and the company as a whole is criminal. If the people let Wal-Mart stay on track, America will only have Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart will become a monopoly and bankrupt everyone who started with anything other than greed..
