Essay / Analysis of the song Explanation of the song “Romeo and...
Romeo's love for Juliet could be considered a drug, because he cannot live without her. The singer relates that he is "sitting by a fire on a lonely night", the state in which Romeo finds himself when Balthasar comes to deliver the news of Juliet in act five, scene one. The song also talks about "one last kiss, before he leaves", which represents the moment when Romeo will give her a kiss before committing suicide in act five, scene three. “I'll Follow You in the Dark” - Death Cab For Cutie: This song is about a man (the singer) in love and willing to do anything for them. He states that "one day [his love] will die, but [he] will be close behind" and that "[he] will follow them into the darkness." The first line insinuates that the darkness represents death, but it also represents other situations her partner may find themselves in. This song could be used in Romeo and Juliet during act five, scene three, for two reasons. The first is when Romeo literally follows her in the dark, when he goes to her tomb since that is where she rests. The other is when he commits suicide to be with her, to follow her into the world.
