  • Essay / What I learned from writing 101 - 954

I always knew that writing was not my strong point. Going into Writing 101 in September, I was very scared. I knew expectations would be very high for this course; so it would be more difficult than any other writing class I had taken before. At first, writing was a nightmare for me, but with the help of Professor Smart and my tutors, I have significantly improved my writing skills and as a result, I am now a better writer. In four months, I learned a lot. There were a few obstacles throughout the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It’s hard to believe that my writing 101 journey is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this course helped me build my confidence in my writing, which will help me throughout my college life. Writing can be very frustrating; Getting your ideas down on paper so that others can understand the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101, I learned to formulate good defensible theses and also to validate articles related to my subject. The most important element of a paper is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and explains the topic of the essay. Having a well-structured thesis as well as evidence to support that thesis are the main ingredients of a well-written essay. I also learned how important it is to research an author’s background to ensure credibility. This is a very important step in writing because today you can find information on a subject, however, it is not valid. By researching the author, we can see if they are an expert in the field and this would make their information more credible. There is a...... middle of paper ......t I improved in this area over the semester. I am at an important stage in my writing, however, with hard work and determination, I will improve as a writer throughout my college years. Although I know there is still much room for improvement in my writing, I feel like I have made huge progress. for my first semester. I have grown as a writer and believe I have the potential to become a great writer. Throughout my many years here at the College of New Rochelle, I will continue to work hard so that in my final year here at the college, I can look back on my writing from first year to see my improvement. Writing 101 boosted my confidence and made me a better writer today. I will bring this confidence and determination to my Writing 102 class, and I hope the professor continues the molding process that Professor Smart started..
