    She is able to use visual images to display her spouse in epic ways. Boland says she wants to go back to her husband, "with snow on the shoulders of [her] coat / and a car driving by with its headlights on." (lines 27-28) Imagining this scene, the car serves as a sort of spotlight to frame her husband standing on a snow-covered bridge, this image illustrates Boland's wife in a heroic light. The snow on his shoulders makes it look like he's been through harsh conditions. Boland uses the simile: “I see you as a hero in a text / the flamboyant image and the golden edges. » (lines 29-30) This shows how heroic Boland imagines her old husband to be, making him look like a hero from a Greek epic. The imagery created in the second part of this statement is that of a large painting, with its edges framed in gold, further illustrating the epic manner in which Boland sees her husband. It is clear that through Boland's portrayal of her "old" husband, she is missing the way things used to be
