    Program Evaluation When a person starts a new job, they receive a job description of their new position. The job description describes their duties and responsibilities. It is imperative that the new employee read and understand their expectations when starting their new job. This is no different for a school counselor. The position comes with an outline of the expectations and responsibilities that must be met each school year. Fortunately, for the professional school counselor, there are agencies that convey these expectations and responsibilities to the districts that employ them. There are school counselor competencies outlined by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA, 2012) and state standards provided by the school district's state (the state of Texas for purposes of this summary) (Texas Counseling Association , 2004). Ethical standards must be maintained as well as job standards (ASCA, 2012). The ASCA National Model and the Texas Counseling Program Guide provide a job description for professional school counselors, as well as performance assessments (ASCA, 2012) (Texas Counseling Association, 2004). Many school districts use them as guides when developing their own performance evaluations or use those provided directly on the website. Every professional school counselor should know the skills expected of them in their role as a school counselor (ASCA, 2012) (Texas Counseling Association, 2004). While professional school counselors plan, develop and implement their comprehensive guidance and counseling program. , they also prepare program evaluations (Gysbers & Henderson, 2006). How does a teacher...... middle of paper ...... then use these tools to assess not only personal strengths and areas for improvement, but also areas of the programs they are implementing implemented in their schools.
