    Significance is defined as being "great or important, noteworthy or notable" But what does that mean when it comes to being a important member of a nation? This does not mean that we must have explored our lands, built great cities or ruled the country; it just means you had to help shape Australia as a nation and form our identity. Andrew 'Banjo' Patterson did that and it's why we remember him as a remarkable and important Australian. Born on February 17, 1964, his first name was actually Andrew Barton Paterson. The eldest of seven children, Paterson lived in Narrambla, just outside Orange. Best known for his poetry, we sometimes forget that during his life he was also a lawyer, war officer/correspondent, novelist and journalist. His best-known name, "Banjo", was actually formed during his journalism days, as a pseudonym under which he derived from the name of a family racehorse.
