The poem “since feeling is first” is about a man expressing his love to his beloved women written by EE Cummings. The poem is in stanza form with a total number of 16 lines. Cummings uses literary devices such as; metaphor, personification, imagery and denotation express one's feelings. “Since Feeling Is First” is a romantic poem that teaches a lesson about life. The character Cumming created is a man deeply in love. This poem has 16 lines in total and is structured in stanza form. Stanzas are grouped with syntax errors. There is no proper punctuation which makes the reader confused about the pauses. There is an enjambment; where the lines are broken after the completion of the reflection. For example, the first stanza contains four lines and these four lines do not have proper punctuation. To make sense of this stanza, it is appropriate to read it together. The author intentionally made this syntax error because he compares life to a paragraph (line 15). He had to show that life is not structured like a paragraph. Life does not have the logical order contained in the paragraph. The speaker of this poem is a man who is in love and believes there is nothing better. The speaker's tone is romantic and realistic. Literally, the speaker is in love and he believes that nothing is greater than love. There is nothing that can come from love. Figuratively speaking, the poem is about people who forget to achieve the big things in life because they pay attention to trivial things and tend to lose something at the ball... middle of paper.... .. is a romantic poem that teaches a life lesson. His use of figurative language makes the poem appealing to readers. He talks about life being fun if the minor details were not taken into consideration. The literary device; the connotation and imagery supports the figurative meaning of the poem very well. However, this poem could be considered ironic in today's world. The theme; feelings are more important than wisdom in life, this is just another way of saying that thoughts are less important than the feelings produced. Wisdom is only a minor detail and if we think about it, the feelings produced will be ignored. The poem is literally about a man expressing his love to his beloved women.
