To implement the green revolution, change must occur in three main areas: biochemical, mechanical and social. Each of these three changes requires three innovations and each has three main consequences. To implement a biochemical change, a selection of hybrid seeds must be used resulting in increased yields of wheat, rice and corn. Fertilizers are used to increase yield and pesticides are used to control weeds and pests. Mechanical change involves irrigation by diesel pumps to control water supply, tractors and agricultural mechanization increase arable land and reduce labor and improved roads and vehicles speed up travel to the market.
