  • Essay / Analysis of the short story of There Will Come Soft Rains By...

The poem symbolizes that nature continues even if humans pass away. “The robins will carry their feathery fire, hissing their whims on a low fence; and no one will know about the war, no one will care about it when it is over. It would not bother anyone, bird or tree, if humanity perished completely” (Bradbury, par. 41). The poem comes just before the house is destroyed. At the end of the story, a tree falls on the house and causes a fire that destroys the house. “The wind blew. A fallen tree branch crashed through the kitchen window. The room was ablaze in an instant...Among the ruins a wall stood alone” (Bradbury, par. 47 and par. 62). This fire is a symbol of true natural destruction, meaning that technology will fail and nature will prevail. Today, technology was created by humans. Humans died due to human fault. Just like during World War II. Japan bombed the United States and killed thousands. Then the United States bombed Japan and killed thousands. It's not the bomb that's to blame, it's humanity that's to blame.
