Essay / Social Science - 1619
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, purpose is defined as "expressing or dealing with facts or conditions as perceived without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations." And the Cambridge Dictionary has a similar definition: “based on actual facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings.” It is obvious that to be objective, personal opinions about the research question or hypothesis must be eliminated in the research design, research process and reporting method. The goal of any type of research is to be objective, which means that the result can show more effective information and can be generalized to more situations. Almost all books on research methods in the social sciences explain that research should be objective and focus more on how to be objective. They state that the research method can determine whether the research results are objective or not (Fowler, 2009, etc.). In particular, research methods such as random selection of participants, Latin square for inter-subject experimentation level arrangement and double-blind experiment, etc. are designed to make research objective. It seems that objectivity is an “automatic assumption if the tools are sufficiently scientific”. (Cassel, 2002). However, it is difficult to find an article that discusses the likelihood that research results are not objective. Considering that social science research focuses more on complex human behaviors (Jackson, 2007), the study of conflict as a subject of social science, in my opinion, it is impossible to be objective. Because human behaviors are complex and are affected by changes in mood or emotion, situations around them and information from outside, interpersonal interactions...... middle of paper .. .... are as possible as possible in the quantitative research paper and find out some factors related to the conflict, such as cultural background, religion, economic situation, etc. This will make it easier for subsequent searches to compare search results and get more information. Nowadays, subjective evaluation is a popular research topic, as is subjective evaluation of happiness, workload and stress. I suppose this type of research approach can be suitable for studies on conflict situations because the conflict situation is related to human emotions and behaviors. It should therefore be more effective to ask subjects to evaluate their own subjective levels and to make statistics with the values based on subjective evaluation. Results can also be compared between groups and obtain “subjective” conclusion based on the data.
