  • Essay / Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen's Modern Prejudices

Mr. Darcy was such an honest man, on many occasions, such as when he openly admitted his weakness of pride. Returning to his good friend Mr. Bingley, he was sad, and after trying to protect his friends, he realized that he had only made a mistake. He told Mrs. Bennet of an earlier conversation with Mr. Bingley: “I told him, further, that I thought myself mistaken in supposing, as I had done, that your sister was indifferent to him. He, trying to be the honest person, openly admitted his faults and fixed everything. He never considered his actions good or better, what he did was his alone to know. His protection of Lydia Bennet, a younger sister of Elizabeth Bennet, was only mentioned by Mrs. Gardiner. When Mrs. Bennet heard the news, she only cowered in tears at his caring nature. Mr. Darcy was too humble to boast about donating 10,000 to protect their family name or to openly admit Mr. Wickham's bad deeds just to elevate himself.
