  • Essay / Lack of Sports Variety at SAP - 1036

Problem: Marion Military Institute is considered one of the best schools for preparing cadets who hope to enter a service academy soon. The institution exposes students to the military “way of life,” academically and physically. MMI's unique way of preparing cadets is through its rigorous Service Academy Program (SAP), a program customized by each military academy designed to maximize cadets' competitiveness for appointment to a United States military academy. The SAP program offers a challenging academic curriculum, which undoubtedly prepares cadets. However, there is one important aspect of preparation that the SAP program does not offer: active sports and clubs to participate in. At MMI, only four sports are offered to cadets: baseball, basketball, tennis and wrestling. There could be many more, but the school is not using its resources and equipment effectively. On the contrary, resources are stagnating. The large indoor swimming pool and attractive stadium with a usable soccer field, new track and soccer goals are all unoccupied, as no teams or clubs play any of these sports. Instead, cadets sit in the barracks and watch Netflix, listen to music or sleep. A year of inactivity in a sport will decrease the cadets' athletic performance once they reach the military academy. Even academics suffer. According to extensive research, schools with strong sports programs have higher test scores and lower dropout rates. Marion Military Institute has the resources and equipment to implement these sports, but does not understand the cadets' desire to expand the athletic department. With my following proposal, I hope to attract the attention of higher authorities...... middle of paper ...... The games will be held every two months and a stable routine will be established. Conclusion: Marion Military Institute is considered to have one of the best preparatory programs to prepare cadets for entry into a military academy. Without a doubt, MMI exposes its cadets to a rigorous academic routine similar to that of a military academy. However, SAP cadets need preparation in a sport because they have to play it in a military academy. Many cadets are deprived of sports, simply because they are not offered and there are no organized groups or clubs to practice them. With the implementation of my organized plan, club sports will be an option for cadets and the SAP program will be more productive and successful. -sports-arent-killing-academics/280155/https://www.marionmilitary.edu/programs/sap-overview.cms
