Essay / What is Armature Reaction in DC Motor - 728
The armature flux superimposes on the primary or main field flux and now aggravates the fundamental field flux (as shown in the third figure in the image above). This impact is called armature reaction in DC motors. The adverse effects of armature reaction The effect of armature reaction is well illustrated in the figure below 1) The armature response weakens the main flux. If a direct current generator occurs, the weakening of the fundamental flux reduces the voltage produced.2) The response of the armature mutilates the fundamental flux, subsequently the position of the MNA is displaced (the MNA is opposite the lines flow of the fundamental flow). Brushes should be placed on MNA, otherwise it will prompt starting on the surface of the brushes. So, due to the armature response, it is difficult to decide the precise position of the MNA3) For a loaded DC generator, the MNA will be moved towards the pivot (direction of rotation). Again, for a loaded DC motor, the MNA will be moved in the opposite direction to that of rotation. Methods to reduce
