  • Essay / Film Industry: Office Spaces and Visionaries - 1577

In the words of my father, the company owner, "being stuck in a schedule is like being trapped in a maze of time." 'hell ". Depending on a particular person, a scheduled routine may be appreciated, but it is not suitable for everyone. People rely on schedules to accomplish their priorities for the day, like actors following a script. Society presents the problem of becoming the puppet of a programmed routine in an individual's life. This topic raises a lot of controversy over the irony that it is schedules that control people, rather than people controlling schedules. Stephen Covey says, “The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to plan your priorities” (Brainy). Workers are so preoccupied with their jobs and routines that they miss out on their priorities. These priorities concern love and relationships, family, friends and quality of life. In the films Office Space and Visioneers, work is presented as an inevitable part of life. However, the films do not present a strong argument regarding the negative effects of work on workers in terms of schedules and routines, which can lead to depression and stress. Office Space is a film that illustrates the fear of the workplace through its characters. Peter Gibbons, the main character, despises the work system and is fed up with his bosses. He follows a daily schedule involving the same routines which are: wake up early, get stuck in traffic, get harassed by bosses, go home, watch TV and repeat. Schedules control the lives of individuals, rather than individuals controlling the schedule. Following the program over and over again is unhealthy and can cause depression (Gomez 1). Depression causes people stress, sadness ... middle of paper ... time, but also consumes a person's will to dream. The workplace uses scapegoating to coerce a worker into feeling and believing a certain way. Stay responsible for the schedule and don't become a helpless implementer.
