During my undergraduate experience at Morehouse College, students were constantly advised to travel the world and become "global leaders", those who understand the many cultures that exist in our society and who are constantly being trained. in an exchange between others, near and far. I believe this is exactly what I did during my university studies, having participated in study, research, volunteering and teaching abroad. Visit countries like Brazil, Peru, the Dominican Republic, etc. opened my eyes to the beauty of people, nature and cultures other than my own. Now, as I begin a new stage in my life, I embrace the opportunity to experience one of the richest cultures and learn some of its long history while doing something I truly love and that serves a community. Through this opportunity with CIEE, I hope to be able to see and experience more of the world around me while gaining a better understanding of its myriad societies. I want to experience life in Asia. I want to indulge in local cuisine, listen and dance music, and interact with people while studying and practicing the unique languages, stories, and literature. I hope to examine by comparing some aspects of my home culture, that of the Bahamas, to that of the institution I was assigned. But above all, I am looking forward to this experience which will allow me to refine my skills and teach me more about the world in which I live. I have read many books and seen many photographs of Asia. This only increased my desire to experience it all for myself and to be the man behind the lens of a camera and the ink of a pen, but distinguished by his work in society. From the moment I started thinking about the future and wondering who and what I would become, I have... middle of paper... the true purpose of being here. I was also part of a group that traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to visit different religious denominations and learn about them. It was customary for us to arrive early to create an opportunity to discuss certain rules, beliefs and practices of the members. I realized that it was best to first listen and try to understand with a sense of openness, then gather more information through inquisition and research. My discovery skills and inquisitorial nature have allowed me to adapt very well to the many cultures I have been exposed to. Every challenge has an equally unique solution and I promise that as a teacher, it is my job to work to solve each challenge. issue.
