Essay / Effective Goal Setting for Teachers - 1877
In order to help the high school principal motivate the teacher by setting goals, it is important to first define the term "goal." The term goal included the meaning of many related terms such as objective, intention, aim, purpose, and task (Locke and Latham 1990). However, there are differences between them. According to Locke and Latham (1990), objectives can be defined as the goal of an action, that is, what one ultimately wants to achieve after completing tasks or completing an action. For example, one of the principal's goals is to increase his Year 5 students' NAPLAN test scores above the national average in order to attract more students to his school. Furthermore, there are three main ways that teachers can be affected by goal setting (Locke and Latham 1990). First, goals can help focus on goal-related actions. Second, it plays an energizing role; the more difficult the goal, the more effort teachers will put into it. Finally, individuals could become more perseverant if their goals are important to them. In the process of achieving goals, different tasks need to be accomplished at different levels. Therefore, in relation to the goal, tasks are the specific or detailed tasks that we perform to achieve the end goal. For example, the director's goal is to increase overall results above the national level by 15 points by the end of this year. Several tasks must be completed to achieve the goal. For example, improve reading skills by assigning three readings and related questions each week to students to increase reading speed or arrange one-on-one tutoring on writing that students submit to advance writing skills. Dimensions of objectives (Specificity and proximity)As we know, the final objective of...... middle of paper ......was defined by the objective set by the director. In addition, the director must provide feedback during the process and he must also take into account some unforeseen consequences that may arise.
