  • Essay / Living a pluralistic lifestyle that sees diversity...

“Culture”, as a word, corresponds to a group of words that do not have a single definition or meaning, but several. With a diverse population prevalent in the United States today, our country is a melting pot of diverse cultures, each distinct in its own respect. Culture distinguishes one social group from another, including beliefs, language, traditions, art, food, religion, and economic systems. Through ongoing and evolving processes of learning and sharing, culture shapes our patterns of behavior and thinking. The meaning of a culture is so philosophical that it touches almost every aspect of who and what we are. As Henslin once said: “Culture becomes the prism through which we perceive and evaluate what is happening around us. » It becomes who we are and how we see things differently from people of another nationality. In Outcasts United by Warren St. John's, culture is an important aspect that plays an important role throughout the book and challenges the refugees in their daily lives. A pluralistic society can influence the behavior and thinking styles of the people who live around it. Some of these people can learn from the diversity of cultures to find faults in their own lifestyle and try to improve them better. Liberians, Middle Easterners, and Africans are some examples of how a person's culture can impact the lives of people who live around them. Starting a new life in a different culture is not easy, but on the contrary, it is very difficult to overcome certain difficulties. challenges that we may encounter. When visitors first arrive in a booming country like America, they are excited to live the life they have dreamed of for years. But after a while, they start paying fees that benefit each individual. Clarkston, Georgia, gave thousands of refugees a home to live; they provided immigrants with their basic necessities. Some of these new cultures that impacted society to some extent were those of the Middle East, Africa, and Liberians. The people of Clarkston have been exposed to a lot of diversity around them, which has brought many changes in the society due to the diversity of people living there. While some changes have been beneficial, others have not. However, ultimately, Clarkston symbolized a perfect model of a pluralistic society for others to observe and appreciate. People should be willing to change; you never know, it might change your life forever in a moral way. A good way to see culture through our own eyes is to “view the diversity of the world as a blessing rather than a burden” (The Aga Khan).
