Essay / A Hero: Peeta's Hero as a Hero - 752
According to Joseph Campbell, “A hero is someone who has given his life to something greater than himself. » Everyone imagines heroes differently. Heroes don't always have to have supernatural abilities. It can just be ordinary people who make a difference in someone's life. Peeta, from the Hunger Games trilogy, is a hero in his own way. Peeta was just an ordinary young man until he was forced to enter the arena and fight to the death on live television. Peeta didn't know what effect it would have. Peeta gave people hope and faith. Peeta didn't try to become a hero, but the choices he made are what led him to be known as a hero. Peeta was born and raised in District 12, which specializes in mining. Peeta was the son of a baker. Peeta was stocky and had an average height. When Peeta was a child, he first saw Katniss Everdeen at school. He immediately had a crush on her. Peeta had many different skills. Thehungergames.wikia.com states that Peeta has five main skills: cooking, painting, speaking, camouflage, and strength. Peeta being the son of a baker, he really liked baking. This is where his painting talents come from. Peeta helped his parents decorate cakes and other pastries. Peeta also had great speaking skills. He could always endear himself to people and make them feel comfortable. He knew how to use the nature around him to camouflage himself. Once in the arena, he painted himself to blend in with some leaves so that no one around would see him. Peeta, who placed 2nd in a District 12 wrestling match, was strong while working in the bakery with his parents. It can be seen in this article that Peeta has many different skills. Peeta used all his skills to protect... middle of paper... the woods. Rue was stabbed in the stomach. When Peeta and Katniss arrived at District 11, Peeta gave a speech to Rue's family and then gave her family a share of his winnings each year. This was something that had never been done before. He felt the need to give them money because she was too young to be dead but also because she was Katniss's ally. Everything Peeta did was for Katniss. According to Kendra Cherry, “people who rush to help others in the face of danger and adversity do so because they genuinely care about the safety and well-being of others” (2). Peeta could still see the bigger picture. Peeta knew Katniss could do something different and bring down the Capitol. He was willing to do whatever it took for Katniss, including dying for her. He never compromised who he was in games. Heroes are people who act with dignity under pressure.
