Essay / How Technology Affects Today's Youth - 703
They always complain that today's youth don't spend enough time outside playing or doing something productive in their lives. They believe that young people are wasting valuable time just texting and talking on the phone all the time. They wrongly understand that technology has evolved and that the things they enjoyed fifty years ago no longer really interest young people today. Additionally, communication is different than it was back then. Older people only had one phone, and it was usually the one at home. They didn't have computers or social networking sites like today. If you wanted to talk to a friend, you had to do it in front of the whole house. There wasn't much privacy back then like there is now. Back then, using the landline was their only means of quick communication, whereas today one can call, text, email, or chat with a friend on social media. Young people today have more privacy because they have cellular devices that they can take with them anywhere, which is actually a good thing. If there is an emergency and one is away from home, they can easily call or text someone for help. On the other hand, we couldn't have that kind of technology, that's why young people at the time weren't allowed to go out.
