Summary On June 26, 2015, a divided Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case Obergefell v. Hodges. Hodges that same-sex couples could now marry nationwide. At the time of the split decision, there were 9 justices on the Supreme Court, 5 of them were Republicans and the other 4 were Democrats. In high-profile cases, judges will vote along party lines. When the 5-4 decision was revealed by the following statement. “It would be a misunderstanding of these men and women to say that they lack respect for the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is that they will not be condemned to live in solitude, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They demand equal dignity before the law. The Constitution grants them this right (Corn, 2015). written by After Davis' arrest, deputies in the clerk's office began issuing marriage licenses again. After 5 days in jail, Nancy Davis was released and ordered not to interfere with the deputy's issuance of the licescence of marriage. Davis asked deputies to continue issuing licenses, but they were changed. David removed the county name, his name and his signature, potentially rendering the document invalid. No reproduction has been made to modify the licenses. I wish someone would punish her and not just sweep it under the rug. Although I personally don't agree with Nancy Davis, in the United States of America she has the freedom to believe whatever she wants. Not once was she asked to believe that a marriage is not just a matter between a man and a woman. woman, every citizen of Rowan County wants Davis to stop burying what they believe. She is an elected state representative governed by the Kentucky Constitution. The Constitution of Kentucky is modeled on that of the United States
