Essay / The history and culture of New Orleans - 986
Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville Founded this isolated port in New Orleans, capital of Louisiana, in 1718. The original name was “New Orleans -Orléans” before becoming known by its current name. today under the name of New Orleans. New Orleans is in a desirable and exciting location for a city. The place known as the melting pot of a port city is located between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain. The French Quarter is the land between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain during the colonial era. The French Quarter is known to be called "Quarter" by the citizens of New Orleans. In French, French Quarter is “Vieux Carré” and it is considered the heart and soul of New Orleans. The neighborhood is where neighbors greet visitors on the streets, and it is also the cultural center. In 1722, New Orleans became the capital of the French colony. It is considered a cultural center due to the mixture of Spanish, French, Creole and American styles of architecture. The cause of the colonial melting pot was due to the different people who controlled New Orleans, the traumatic events that caused people to settle in New Orleans, the mating of settlers with other ethnicities, and the fact that this was becoming an important one. The various events that took place there culminated in the crucible of New Orleans. The French were the first to take control of New Orleans (1718-1764). The French sent prisoners, slaves, and enslaved servants to establish a population in the new colony. John Law was able to convince the Duke of Orléans to grant him a 25-year charter to explore the new territory. He didn't leave alone, he took Europeans with him, he lied to the Europeans by telling them there was gold where they would head to if they decided to leave with Law. Meanwhile...... middle of paper...... Aboriginal people who were present. Control of the city led to other people settling there. When France was in power, the French followed, because the place was developed enough for them and they were able to leave a mark on the city. After the French came the Spanish, which would have been completely fair, because Spain took over the migration of people to where they had control. When revolutions and religious discord began to occur, more and more people came to the city of New Orleans. With all of this, it mixed people together and caused this melting pot in the city of New Orleans. During the colonial era, New Orleans had many different cultures, and with these differences, it caused controversy due to the mixing of people. Even though they were all mixed up, the city still managed to get by..
