  • Essay / She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb - 681

Before taking this course, I always watched movies and read books like the average person does; interesting plot and how long will it hold my interest, but this class gave me a whole new perspective when watching movies and reading books. Now that I have taken this course and watched the required films, the most important thing when watching other films and reading books is the meaning of each scene and how they relate to and affect our world. For this article, I will be discussing a book that I read a long time ago, namely She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb and how this book relates to this course. She's Come Undone is the story of a girl named Dolores Price. In this book, the author takes you through the life of Dolores, from the age of four to the age of forty. In this book, Dolores had a very difficult life overall, due to her father leaving, being raped by her neighbor, a mother suffering from mental illness, and even her sexual orientation. As I read the book, I believed that she was doomed from the start and would never be able to fully overcome all of these tragedies. As a coping mechanism, Dolores sat in front of the television and gnawed away her life, and as she approached adulthood, she weighed 250 pounds. Since Dolores stayed home and ate all these years, it was easy for me to realize that she would have difficulty interacting and forming relationships with other people when she went to college in Pennsylvania , which was indeed a major problem she faced. her mother died before her. With all the weight she was carrying, she attempted suicide. After this failed attempt, she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital where she began to sort out all the problems she had faced during her life with the middle of a paper......need advice or someone to talk to about it. tell them what they should do, but instead they need someone to simply give them attention and allow them to talk openly about the things that bother them. This film and book relate to my personal life because, as I mentioned throughout the course discussions, I lost a friend to suicide a few months ago and it is indeed a serious matter. I sometimes think that if I had paid more attention to some of the cues he gave or had just listened to him as he spoke without speaking, maybe he would be here today. today. She's Come Undone and Harold and Maude taught me that life isn't easy, but you have to hold your head high and move forward in life. They also taught me that I should be more like Dr. Shaw and Maude and be there for my friends, without always trying to give advice because sometimes they just need a listening ear..
