Richard Milhous Nixon, American president, resigned from office. Richard Nixon went through many difficulties on his way to the presidency and had to resign before he could complete his second term, even though he accomplished great things as president. Nixon, despite his mistakes, had a great impact on the United States. Nixon's childhood was not the one you dream of having. Nixon was born on January 9, 1913, on a lemon ranch in Yorba Linda, California. His parents were not wealthy, which meant that Nixon had to work even harder to succeed (“Nixon”). Nixon was a great help to his family by helping in the family gas station/grocery store. Nixon, the hard worker that he was, enrolled at Whittier College in 1930. Nixon was very involved in his school, participating in student government, theater, and football (“Biography of Richard Nixon”). Finishing second in his class at Whittier College, Nixon was offered a scholarship to Duke Law School. There he participated in the law revision as an active member. He graduated in June 1937. Nixon later returned to Whittier College to join the law firm of Wingert and Bewley. There, at the law office, he met his future wife, Thelma Catherine, who at the time was a schoolteacher and in whom Nixon was also participating in a community play. Nixon spoke with Ryan for some time until they were married on June 21, 1940 in California. They went on their honeymoon to Mexico (“Biography of Richard Nixon”). Nixon moved to Washington, D.C. in January 1942 because he wanted to join the Office of Price Administration. Shortly after obtaining the position, he left to enter the Navy on August 17, 1942. He was assigned to a station in Ottumwa, Iowa. He requested a transfer to the South Pacific Theater and was quickly transferred there. While... middle of paper ... Nixon worked very hard to rise to the presidency, but then blew it by deceiving his own government by creating his own private fund.
