Essay / Lottery The Lottery - 795
Ms. Hutchinson's family seems to act as if they don't care about stoning her, and only care about following tradition and the rules of the annual lottery. The only way the lottery would work year after year is if the family of the one being stoned didn't act emotionally, otherwise they would call for the lottery to end and fight not to participate, but every family in the village seemed voluntarily participate. Even Old Man Warner, who has participated for seventy-seven years, believes it is a tradition that cannot end. In these seventy-seven years, he must have lost some good friends and family members, but that doesn't matter to him. The lottery brings out the worst in people because it makes them forget what family and love is for a person.
