Essay / Which allowed me to acquire my role as an educational leader...
1. What information have I gained about my role as an educational leader from these chapters?A. These chapters enlightened me about the plight of different immigrant and ethnic groups. For example, I better understand the origins and motivations of the nativist movement and am confident that by engaging students in meaningful dialogue and discussion, I can convince these young people of the benefits of immigration. Likewise, these chapters have changed my understanding of ace in schools and the struggle that different cultural groups have faced regarding the issue of legitimate respect for their race in the public school system. For example, many sports fans and groups do not understand the offense and anger Native Americans feel over the use of Indian mascots (Koppelman, 2015, p. 104). Additionally, I was able to recognize the differences between different racisms that students face and help develop ways to combat discrimination.2. What American nativist attitudes will I work to deflate in my school?A. The nativist attitude that I will work hardest to reduce is the idea of Americanization, because far too many people in my community believe that immigrants should abandon their culture and become more American (Koppelman, 2015, p. 75). For example, there were several instances of bullying and fights because students did not want immigrant students to display their heritage flags or wear cultural clothing; When asked, students felt that these immigrant students should be more like Americans. Likewise, it is important to dispel the English-only feeling that many students have, as they feel that everyone who enters this country should be required to learn and speak English.... . middle of paper ......hy should I advocate for bilingual programs during my term?A. As a school leader, it is important that I champion curricula that position my students to be career ready. For these reasons, this is why I think it is important to ensure that our students are exposed to different languages. To illustrate this point and ensure the security of our country, it may be necessary for schools to start teaching Farsi. This will enable us to train a number of global and political negotiators who can help secure peaceful solutions to global conflicts. Likewise, for economic and commercial reasons, companies are looking for bilingual employees to enable them to contribute to establishing business relationships around the world. Finally, by promoting this in high schools, we can encourage a new group of language teachers (Koppelman, 2015, p.. 90).
