  • Essay / Causes of the American Revolution - 1400

Britain imposed taxes such as the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act. The colonists had no say in what policies would be implemented in the colonies, which angered many colonists. When the Stamp Act was put into place, a group called the Stamp Act Congress formed and declared that Britain should have no power over the colonies. The Sugar Act was put in place primarily to recoup the money that Britain used to send troops to the colonies. It also reduced the smuggling of non-British goods into the colonies. This greatly angered the Americans because not only was it taxation without representation, but also because they were essentially paying for the troops who were in the colonies that no one wanted. This resulted in another factor that would ultimately lead to the revolutionary revolution.
