  • Essay / Business Communication: What is Communication - 1517

IntroductionBusiness communication is abundant in today's society. The ability to communicate has always had its benefits, with its rich history and traditions, modern business communication is considered a modern concept. Business leaders consider business communication skills as one of the personal factors necessary to obtain a job. As stated by Hynes (2005) “effective business communication is the key to planning, directing, organizing and controlling organizations' resources to achieve objectives” (Conrad and Newberry, 2011, p112). This essay will examine what business communication skills are necessary for the degree process at Westminster Business School, while giving recommendations on studying different elective modules in order to increase and develop the career opportunities. What is communication? Communication is the act of transferring information from one place to another (Means, 2009). There are different categories of communication and more than one can occur at any time. Communication is sent by a sender through a communication channel to a receiver. The sender interprets the message in a form suitable for the communication channel, then the receiver decodes the message to understand its meaning and importance. Misunderstandings can occur at any stage of the communication process. To make communication effective, it is essential to minimize potential barriers to communication at each stage of the communication process. This can be seen on "Effective Business Communication" (Murphy et al, figure 1.3, p14).Figure 1, Mindtools, The Communication Process, ndGeneral communication skillsThe main communication skills are verbal and non-verbal communication (Gallagher. .... . middle of article ......bal Communication Science & Application.: SAGE Publications.Means, T (2009): Cengage Learning: AldineTransaction p182.Motivating Employees. //www.knowledge.hsbc.co.uk/tools-and-resources/article/motivating-employees.
