  • Essay / Fredrick Douglass: The Effects of Colonization

This struggle for power has many negative ramifications for both Europeans and Africans. Europeans are seen as immoral or righteous and Africans as savage or helpless. Both rely on their economic relationships with each other. Color and labor are power dynamics that need to be explored: were workers colored because they were workers or were people of color naturally workers? However, the need for labor in a capitalist economy further divides people economically. Europeans' dehumanization of non-white people plays a vital role in their exploitation of non-white people. This is a blatant act of hatred and racism. These tools have been used to colonize people, civilize them, dehumanize them and ensure that they have no choice but not to bite the hand that feeds.
