Essay / Reflection Paper on the Pursuit of Happiness - 1128
Reflection: Pursuit of HappinessThe Pursuit of Happiness is the story of a man determined to create a more meaningful life for himself and his son. He is part of the urban underclass. This is defined as a gregarious class living in deprived neighborhoods characterized by poverty, family breakdown, male unemployment and a lack of individuals in high-status occupations. He dreams of achieving convivial mobility, the ability to transmute gregarious classes. He achieves vertical mobility as he moves from one friendly class to another. One of the sociological outcomes is the attainment of status; The status achieved is that achieved through individual effort. For example, Chris achieved this status because he had someone who believed in him and optically discerned his potential and knew that he would be an asset to his company and would truly take his company to the top . This film is inspiring and shows a very primordial perspective that allows us to identify ostensibly distant and impersonal friendly forces and connect them to our daily lives. Socialization is another sociological discovery of this film; Socialization is the process by which you discover the friendly prospects that society offers you. Gender roles also play an impact in this film because of the jobs Chris chose, like being in the military, he mentally thought that being in the military would make him a man and make him a good father. As a salesman, he viewed it as being his own boss and striving to prosper with the products he sold and make a living. Even though he was in his mid 30s, he couldn't go to work and at a fast food restaurant, a clothing store or those 5-9 jobs that others without kids could work... middle of paper. ... What comes across in the film is that dreams may fade, but they never die. All a human being needs is a willingness to rejuvenate him at any point in his life and demonstrate an effort to achieve his dreams. As the famous quote from the movie goes: “You have a dream, you have to fight for it.” Another point that was successfully demonstrated by the film is that it is not obligatory for every person riddled with the wounds caused by broken relationships and financial crisis to adopt an evil method to appease their needs and desires. Chris Gardner had every reason to adopt a means to easily make money using illicit and illegitimate designations, but he chose to go against the grain and effectively contravene the circumstances instead of capitulating to the existing status qua and that is precisely where its greatest victory lies.
