“These events – and the doubts they inspired – have contributed to a cloud of personal data “insecurity” that now looms over everyday decisions and activities many Americans. » (Rainie) As people use the Internet to play games, make appointments, and simply search the web, they know they are doing nothing wrong, but they still fear that the government will consider their acts as something bad or alarming. The government is hoarding information about people's Internet and phone activity, but this makes people uneasy, even knowing they are not doing anything wrong, they fear a mistake and trouble. “A federal appeals court recently ruled that a National Security Agency program that collects Americans' phone records is illegal” (Maiden and Rainie). Although this appeal was quickly rejected, at one point they were illegally collecting information from us. Knowing this information leaves the country worried whether the government is doing things right and not going against our rights as such.
