  • Essay / Capitalism versus Communism - 1228

“Necessity, which is the mother of invention” (Plato), but profit doesn’t hurt either! Until the first industrial revolution, manual labor was the way of the world. The world's great societies like the Greeks and Romans built their empires with their own hands. With the inventions of the 1780s-1850s, machines and innovation gave way to less manual labor. With low salaries, employees lived in substandard housing. Overpopulation and pollution have become a problem. Sometimes two or more families lived in one apartment. Without plumbing, they threw their waste into the street. Poor living conditions and poor sanitation gave rise to many diseases. The mass immigration of people from farms and foreign countries was known as urbanization. The consequences of urbanization have been mentioned above.
